Dorset develops engineering excellence with more job opportunities!

Dorset is home to a thriving and varied advanced engineering sector, including Aerospace, Defence, Composite and Marine technologies. The sector employs around 15,400 people and contribute £800 million to Dorset’s economy.

It’s now been confirmed that a £2.5m development is set to create 20 employment units at a new ‘engineering excellence’ business, which will attract a great amount of new business from the marine, defence and energy sectors to the area.

The project, at Dorset Enterprise Zone at Winfrith, hopes to create around 2,000 jobs which will be a major economy boost for the county.

The scheme is a joint partnership between Dorset LEP, Purbek District Council and Dorset County Council, and with the site already hosting defence technology giants like QinetiQ and Atlas Elektronik, the project hopes to create a bigger cluster of excellence in advanced engineering within the South West. The development, named Dorset Innovation Park is to be completed this autumn.

Another £7.7m development is also currently on the way at Cobham Gate, in Ferndown Industrial Estate which will provide industrial, warehouse and office development opportunities. The plans boast 405,000sqft of new employment space, which is set to provide greater job opportunities and help enhance Dorset’s existing economy.
