Holt Engineering are currently looking for experienced NDT Technicians to work for a well-established Aerospace business. The NDT Technician would work within the treatment facility on a variety of products.

Key Responsibilities as an NDT Technician:

  • Testing of various company components
  • Working to customer approvals such as AS9100, NADCAP
  • Magnetic Particle, Penetrant and Etch Inspection
  • Work as part of a team
  • Show good technical understanding

Skills and Experience required as an NDT Technician:

  • Qualified to Level 2 NAS410/ EN4179
  • Highly motivated
  • Great attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Magnetic Particle, Penetrant and/ or Etch Inspection
  • Aerospace experience desirable
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and / or NADCAP

Dayshift: Mon – Thur 7:30am to 4pm, Fri 7:30am – 3pm

Skills/Experience Required

Essential

  • Relevant licences at level 2 in associated NDT techniques – to EN4179
  • The priority is in Ultra Sound and Thermography.
  • Experience working on NDT in an Aerospace or Automotive background as a minimum
  • Willing to undergo regular health screening checks

Desirable

  • Ability to work with X-Ray from an Aerospace background would be preferable.

Shifts

  • After a training period usually of two weeks –
  • Weekly rotating Mon to Fri 06.00 to 14.00 then 14.00 to 22.00 – 20% rate uplift
  • Weekend work is available during busy periods and may, on the rare occasion, be required
  • There will also be an ad hoc requirement for night shifts – 22.00 to 06.00

A vacancy has arisen for a Materials Laboratory Engineer to work in the Materials Testing Lab, the role will comprise of selecting the best combination of materials for aircrafts; test materials to assess how resistant they are to heat, corrosion or chemical attack; Analyse data using computer modeling software; Assess materials for specific qualities (such as electrical conductivity, durability, renewability). Develop prototypes.

Materials Laboratory Engineer

Contract length: 6 months

Hourly rate: £20ph

Hours: 37 hours per week

Main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Hands-on testing of materials used in the manufacture of space products.
  • Providing support to the in-process and on-receipt (Batch acceptance) testing of procured materials.
  • Using and maintaining a wide range of test equipment.
  • Representing the materials laboratory at meetings with other departments on site.
  • Supporting the continuous maintenance and review of Material Laboratory Procedures (MLPs) and laboratory working processes
  • Maintaining and improving internal databases and operating procedures
  • Participating in Material Laboratory Audits, Safety Reviews and daily team meetings
  • Ensuring the health and safety of yourself and others, including doing Risk Assessments where necessary.

Skills/Experience Required for this role:

Experience working within an Industrial laboratory environment in the technical/mechanical sector.

Experience working in a cleanliness controlled environment – with a blend of the following – would be desirable –

  • Mechanical testing (Tensile, Compression, Bend tests etc)
  • Metallography and use of Microscopes (including SEM)
  • Chemical testing
  • Thermal Analysis (DSC & DMA)
  • ICP
  • FTIR
  • Thermo-Opticals (Absorptance & Emissivity)

Personal Attributes:

  • Can demonstrate team working skills, communication and presentation capability.
  • Good planning and organisational skills to ensure meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet project demands.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work and is prepared to work at other sites.
  • PC literate, report and specification writing, database maintenance and spreadsheets
  • Fluent in written and spoken communication

  • Computer Literacy – especially in Microsoft office software.

  • Understand general engineering/technical practices utilised in the Aerospace industry.

Job Profile

A Mechanical Technician is part of the Assembly Integration and Test Team. Responsibilities will be to assemble Aluminium/Honeycomb Panels, perform precision fitting and bonding activities, assemble those Panels on Jigs for test campaigns

Mechanically assemble the structural test rigs and MGSE test rigs as per the instructions provided by the engineers

Electrically assemble the structural test rigs and MGSE test rigs as per the instructions provided by the engineers

Set up the hydraulic equipment including flushing of Structure and MGSE test rigs and exercising actuators

Conduct the calibration of instrumentation for both the Structure and MGSE test rigs

Participate in load application during tests by use of Hand pumps to operate hydraulic equipment

  • Work from work instructions and drawings to produce the required article.
  • To complete and record information within appendices/routing card/work instruction after the completion of every operation.
  • Highlight any anomalies and proactively liaise with the Team Leader/Engineering to update instruction to reflect build sequence and data capture requirements.
  • To work in accordance with LDS (local document system) describing methods and procedures.
  • Promote Cleanroom regulations, local area health and safety requirements and 5S policy within local work areas
  • To regularly demonstrate skills, a specialism or product knowledge/experience that sets the technician apart from their peers and to train and mentor colleagues in this area to ensure the high quality of finished goods.
  • To demonstrate the desire, commitment and team working ethic to complete the task in the correct quality and lead time.
  • To demonstrate flexibility and mobility to work across different product and or departments as required by the workload.

Liaise with team leader and production support to address manufacturing anomalies and be proactive in 5s disciplines and continuous improvement activities.

Experience

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience of assembly, manufacturing or production within a clean room environment as part of a team.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience of the Aerospace Industry
