An exciting opportunity for a skilled Quality Inspector has opened up at a well known aerospace company who are based just outside of the Winchester area. The company have been operating for over 50 years and due to the nature of their industry and the complexity of the work every aspect of the manufacturing process must conform to aerospace standards. In terms of the position, the company are ideally looking for someone with a high level of inspection experience within the aerospace sector and are ideally looking for someone to take over as the team leader of the inspection department.  

Skills needed for Quality Inspector 

– Ability to complete F.A.I.Rs
– Previous experience within the aerospace industry is essential
– Supervisory experience 
– Able to process first/stage and final inspection of machined components, assemblies and fabricated part
– Working knowledge of Nadcap required
– Solid working knowledge of AS9100 & AS9102
– Fabrication inspection experience

Salary for Quality Inspector 

– DOE – £35,000 TO £40,000

Purpose of a Quality Inspector

The Inspector should ensure that products are inspected to the correct requirements, specifications and materials as agreed with the customer.

To support departments within the business and ensure the products supplied by ACS UK Ltd are manufactured in conformance with the relevant design data and specifications.

To release conforming product on the correct release documentation and information

 

Quality Inspector Key Responsibilities

 

  • To approve product to drawings and customers supporting documentation.
  • To provide assistance and support within the business regarding product conformance.
  • Operate singularly or as part of a team that makes the most effective use of inspection resource.
  • To record non-confirming product in a descriptive manner to assist the Quality Assurance Engineers.
  • Conduct internal audits within departments.
  • Understand FAIR process to AS9102.
  • Any other reasonable duties requested by Head of Quality.

Quality Inspector Requirements:

  • First pass yield / parts inspected
  • AS9100 AS9102 requirements
  • Agreed departmental KPIs
  • Ability to use measuring equipment such as rulers, callipers, gauges or micrometers to inspect, test and measure product.
  • Experience of reading technical engineering drawings
  • Experience of working with customer drawings and supporting documentation to ensure correct manufacture and assembly of product
  • Experience of conducting internal departmental audits
  • Experience of regulatory document recording
  • Good working knowledge of Quality procedures.
  • Understanding of FAIR process to AS9102
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing quality systems would be desirable.

Quality Inspector 

The Inspector is an integral member of the Quality and Production Teams. The role responsibility will primarily be for ensuring compliance to and control of the designated processes during manufacture and verifying the quality of all manufactured product.

 
The Inspector will be responsible for performing dimensional inspection on detail parts either for in-process verification or procured product. Additionally, this role will include active monitoring of established systems and processes to demonstrate compliance to documented requirements. The Inspector will be responsible for maintenance and approval of Manufacturing Orders (MO’s).

 Key Responsibilities:

 
Ensure that activities within the project are conducted in accordance with approved Company practice, Company certification and approvals, Regulatory requirements, Quality Plans and contractual obligations.

Monitor and verify processes and product by inspection and audit on site or within the supply chain.

Support and assist with verification of in-process or procured product to ensure compliance of product and associated documentation.

Operation and eventual programming of a Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to facilitate dimensional measurement of product and parts.

Support First Article Inspection activities as required by the business or contract.

Ensuring complete and accurate documentation packs providing records of verification and traceability.

Support initial survey and inspection of equipment returned for repair.

Assist with integration of changes resulting from new or amended Manufacturing or Quality Standards.

Contribute towards the creation of new processes, procedures and documents and participate in related document reviews.

Participate in customer facing meetings and audits.

Support internal, customer and supplier audit schedules required to establish compliance with controlling procedures, Quality Plans and applicable customer requirements.

Manage Non-Conformance, Concession and Production Permit approval activities, including the maintenance of detailed and accurate records, and ensure timely closure of issues.

Participate in or facilitate related continuous improvement activities, including Root Cause

Analysis activities to continually drive process and performance improvement.

Perform other reasonable duties as may be required of the role from time to time in support of business needs.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

 
Previous experience in a Quality Assurance / Quality Control related position will be essential.

Familiarity with BS EN ISO 9001, AS9100 or other manufacturing industry related Quality standards.

Sound knowledge of Quality management principles and techniques within a manufacturing environment, including a working knowledge of non-conformance management principles and problem-solving techniques.

Ability to read and understand electrical & mechanical engineering drawings, including an understanding of circuit diagrams, tolerances, geometric tolerances and weld symbols.

Prior experience and good understanding of metrology techniques required for the inspection of precision mechanical components.

Prior experience of electrical/electronics assembly, precision mechanical manufacture, and mechanical manufacturing techniques including machining and welding would be an advantage.

Electronic / Electrical Inspection experience to IPC 610/620 standards or equivalent would be an advantage.

An understanding of ESD procedures, equipment and controls

An understanding of First Article Inspection requirements, with knowledge of AS9102 Aerospace First Article Inspection Requirement preferred.

Certified Internal Auditor or demonstrable experience of internal audits; Lead Auditor / Third party auditing experience an advantage.

Experience of using ERP systems preferred.

 

May be necessary to work extended hours from time to time
